V.-ENGINE

The V.-ENGINE program system is a calculation software package for designing basic combustion engine mechanics quickly and efficiently.

The calculation models require relatively few input variables which, in general, are easy to procure (e.g. basic engine parameters). Given the type and number of requisite input parameters and the very short computing times, V.-ENGINE is ideal for use early on in the concept phase and for investigating variants. Modular in structure, V.-ENGINE provides modules for computing crank drive (V-Crank), torsional vibration (V-Torsion), plain bearing design (V-Bearing), determining free forces and moments of crank and valve train (V-Cam, V-Force) as well as engine mount (V-Mount).

The heart of the program system is the V-Crank sub-module for designing crank trains. This module can be used for analysing a variety of tasks in the design process. Cylinder bank angle, firing order and firing intervals as well as crank throw angle can be determined for configuring the engine concept. The kinetostatic calculations for the crank train are used, for example, to compute torque, free forces and moments as well as the bearing forces. The system proposes possible balancer shafts to compensate for free forces and moments. Internal connection of individual modules (V-Bearing, V-Torsion) to the V-Crank module provides the capability of working out the characteristic values for plain bearings (lubrication gap, oil throughput, friction loss) and of investigating crankshaft torsional vibration.

V.-ENGINE uses the efficient TeimOrbit graphic user interface for the data input pre-process and for evaluating calculation results. The various calculation results can be evaluated in the form of graphs, protocols and result plots, and exported through different interfaces (ASCII, GIDAS, KetSim, SimDrive), making them available as input variables for downstream programs.
