Diesel2020

Given the EU's targets on CO2, the emission standards under EU6 and Tier 2 Bin legislation, engine developers are facing some tough challenges. Added pressure is coming from growing demands on efficiency and ride comfort while new technologies, such as hybrid and alternative drives, are providing attractive options for future vehicle concepts.

So, where is the journey taking us? What are the options technology can offer for the next generation of diesel engines? Compression-ignition engines have made tremendous strides in recent years – following a constant stream of innovations, the diesel engine meanwhile propels over 50 percent of vehicles in Europe. But is this the shape of things to come? And how can the diesel engine resolve the trade-off, for instance, between optimized fuel economy and minimized NOx emissions? These are the questions at the focus of attention at IAV, your engineering
development partner.

This is why we have decided to present our findings and focal activities relating to diesel powertrains in the Diesel2020 publication.
