Testing of the Fuel Supply System

A fuel supply system capable of working under all boundary conditions is the basic prerequisite for trouble-free injection-system operation.

This is why the layout and development of fuel supply systems and associated components is an integral part of injection system development work. IAV has the means to analyze and test entire fuel supply systems.

Function of the overall system:
The operation of the overall system is examined in test drives using specially equipped test vehicles under different operating conditions. These include:
  • General test drives
  • Special test drives:
       - Re-start
       - Skid-pad driving
       - Cold drive-off
       - Fuel cooling

Component tests

The overall system can be set up on the component test bench for configuring the basic layout. This makes it possible to study the effects that individual components have on the overall system. Moreover, individual components can be examined under different operating conditions.

 Fuel filter:
  • Water separation
  • Dirt separation
  • Low-temperature behavior
Pre-heating valves:
  • Opening and closing behavior
  • Pressure loss

Fuel delivery unit:
  • Provision of required pressure / flow
  • Temperature and load-dependent parameters
  • Leveling while cornering / hill climbing
 Tank:
  • Pre-filtering
  • Leveling while cornering / hill climbing
  • Adequate supply to electric fuel pump

Line components:
  • Function
  • Stability / durability
  • Vibration behavior / acoustics
