At present, IAV´s design team is working on combining the concept of width and height adjustment presented at the 7th Vehicle Seats Conference staged at Haus der Technik in Essen with normal adjustment features such as seat height, seat length, seat angle and backrest angle adjustment. The aim is to present a roadworthy model by early 2005.
April 2004: First model for concept validation
After in-depth studies of the anthropological/demographic data and having come up with a concept to reduce the padded elements to the requisite support zones, the IAV experts developed a model for examining the theoretically designed adjustment travels.
Exhaustive trials with test volunteers produced practical findings of value to future work:
- The vertical separation should never exceed a width of 50mm, otherwise the gap becomes palpable.
- For reasons of vehicle dynamic movement the two ischial tuberosity foam pads ought to be combined to create a cushioned seat.
