Occupant Safety

Inside the vehicle, we turn the design given by the automobile manufacturer into technically producible assemblies.

In doing so, the safety-relevant functions of all designs are optimized through computations and tests on our testing facilities until they are fit for mass production.  We operate a slide and crash facility, climate chambers, sunlight simulation and endurance testing facilities specifically for this purpose.

We can perform the following occupant safety tests for you:
  • Head pendulum impactor test to EC 74/60, ECE R21 and FMVSS 201, JIS (Japan)
  • Application area: instrument panel, center arm rests, seat systems and roof consoles as well as fitted parts (radios, sun visors, cell-phone holders etc.)
  • Head catapult impactor test to FMVSS 201 upper
  • Application areas: vehicle upper interior (pillars and molded headliners)

Airbag development
IAV is your competent partner in developing and designing restraint systems. This applies to head-on restraint systems just as much as it does to side protection systems. In close collaboration with our clients, we provide innovative solutions that satisfy statutory provisions and exhaust potential in terms of optimizing cost and weight.

We can perform the following component tests for you:
  • Driver airbags
  • Passenger airbags
  • Side and head airbags
  • Instrument panel
  • Headliner
  • Linings
  • Seats

We can perform the following airbag tests for you:
  • Out-of-position – OoP (FMVSS 208/CMVSS 208/TWG)

Safety belt development
To ensure comprehensive occupant safety, it is necessary to meet comfort and safety needs as well as take ever tighter legislation into account. The close interaction between computation, design and testing and far-reaching experience in the field of safety-belt development distinguish IAV as a competent engineering provider.
