In times of growing environmental awareness and ever tighter emission standards, a vehicle’s compatibility with the climate is becoming a key selling point. Undercutting gasoline greenhouse emission by as much a 25 percent, compressed natural gas is one of the cleanest fuels available. And vehicles running on biogas are almost carbon-neutral even. Added to this are economic benefits with fuel costing far less than gasoline and diesel.
We have comprehensive, precision knowledge of the entire vehicle. This means we can perfectly integrate the gaseous-fuel system while at the same time making optimum allowance for interfaces and other influencing factors. Coming with many years of experience from our mass-production projects, IAV’s developers can integrate the high-volume tanks into the bodyshell without leaving any drawbacks in respect of ground clearance and drivability, for instance. We always work closely with our partners – such as in preparing gaseous-fuel drive concepts for new platforms.
A CNG vehicle normally has a bi-fuel powertrain that retains the gasoline fuel system. However, this must then be fitted with the components that make compressed natural gas safe to use, such as high-pressure controller, safety solenoid valves and gaseous-fuel tank systems that can cope with pressures of up to 200 bar. Performing extensive tests on our in-house crash facility, we make sure that our CNG vehicles meet the most exacting of requirements also in terms of safety.
