IAV Automotive Engineering Inc. Sponsors Three SAE Formula Racing Teams

12.07.2011 // The excitement is building at the University of Michigan for the Formula SAE MRacing teams at the U of M Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses. Each of the student teams have been spending the winter designing and building their open-wheeled prototype racecar in preparation for the SAE International Collegiate Design Series. The first event of the 2011 series is the Formula SAE® Michigan race which will be held at the Michigan International Speedway, Brooklyn, MI., on May 11-14th, 2011.

IAV Automotive Engineering Inc. proudly supports three teams:  University of Michigan Ann Arbor Michigan SAE Formula Car team, the University of Michigan-Dearborn SAE Formula Electric team (for electric car), and the University of Michigan-Dearborn FSAE team (for combustion car).

The U of M students, whose Ann Arbor team won 2nd place overall at the Formula SAE® Michigan event in 2010, and went on to win 2nd place overall at the Formula Student Germany event held in Hockenheim, Germany against 100 top universities in the global competition.

“We are so appreciative of the financial support IAV Inc. has provided to us for over five years, in addition to the countless hours Curtis Collie and other IAV employees have given to mentor and inspire our students,” beams Brennan MacDonald, Project Manager, MRacing. “Our team would not be a success without the help of industry sponsors like IAV.”

In February 2011, U of M students from both Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses came to visit IAV Automotive Engineering Inc. in Northville to learn more about IAV Inc. and tour the facility.  The students also had the opportunity to share their designs and plans for development for this year’s competition.  President Andy Ridgway greeted the students with much enthusiasm, “We are committed to the strong culture of teamwork at IAV, and we hope to see you back here as our employees down the road. We look forward to meeting you at the finish line on May 14th!”
