Testing and Validation

Our experts use the test bench and field tests for analyzing powertrain performance in the overall system

We can provide you with support in integrating the powertrain into newly developed vehicles and derivatives. Where this involves interfaces to the overall vehicle, we work closely with our colleagues from other IAV departments – in matters regarding the cooling circuit or intake-air routing, for instance. Various teams and extensive testing facilities are at your disposal for field tests and bench testing.

Components

If the base engine needs to be modified as a result of changes in the mounting situation or position, we refer you to our colleagues from Engine Hardware Validation. Otherwise, we match the engine and vehicle interfaces – such as for the cooling circuit. This is where we take care of coordinating services from suppliers for you and assist in validating components.

Overall engine

As part of engine test bench validation, we assume responsibility for ensuring that components function correctly within the overall system. Determining the exposure of parts, sensors and actuators to vibrational stress provides the basis both for evaluating them in relation to limit values as well as for validating components. Using functional endurance tests, such as exhaust-gas thermal shock and resonance endurance testing, we can give you information on component strength.

Vehicle

The vehicle test provides the key to assessing the way in which components respond to heat. We can assist you from equipping vehicles with measuring equipment to conducting and evaluating tests. We obtain the final impression of the integrated powertrain’s acoustics in the overall vehicle, too. Subjective assessment procedures and objective measurements on acoustic roller dynamometers form the basis for releasing components. Vehicle endurance testing is another area in which the colleagues from Engine Hardware Validation work with the colleagues from Powertrain Integration.
