FNN Congress Networks 2019
IAV software supports the strategic planning of power grids
At the FNN Congress for Network Technology and Network Operation – the key congress for power grids – IAV will be presenting software for automated planning of cost-optimized, efficient power grids. The congress will be focusing on implementing the energy transition and looking at specific technical challenges and solutions. The software developed by IAV consists of an algorithm for automated grid planning that enables distribution grid operators to cope with the growing complexity involved in planning their medium-voltage grids while also reducing investment and operating costs.
Intelligent algorithms for optimum grid structure
The software replicates typical medium-voltage grid structures in accordance with the grid operator’s planning criteria. It replicates substations, transformer stations and sectioning points while taking account of grid reinforcement measures. The algorithm processes all this information for iterative generation of many possible solutions for efficient supply of the grid section.
Several load flow and short-circuit calculations are produced and compared for every possible solution, taking account of different load cases such as heavy load and weak load. Due consideration is also given to costs, load reserves, supply reliability, structure simplification and other customer-related criteria.
The software will be presented at the FNN Congress by the product owner Lukas Ruck at 9.50 am on December 5.
