IAV at the 31st Aachen Colloquium Sustainable Mobility

07.10.2022  —

Hydrogen is enjoying its renaissance in the current energy crisis. At the “Aachen Colloquium Sustainable Mobility” (10-12 October 2022), engineering specialist IAV will be demonstrating how the use of hydrogen in the mobility sector can benefit from smart technology solutions with two vivid exhibits.

The highlight of IAV’s booth at the “Eurogress Aachen” is an experimental setup for low-pressure direct injection in hydrogen combustion engines. The latter represent a very interesting drive solution for light and heavy commercial vehicles in particular. They are generally very robust, cope even with inferior hydrogen qualities and are considered attractive in terms of TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).

IAV has investigated the potential of hydrogen combustion engines with low-pressure direct injection (LP-DI) compared to the previously used intake manifold injection (PFI) and the technical challenges that need to be solved and will present its findings at the annual international conference in Aachen.

With the ‘Heavy-Duty Fuel Cell Powertrain’ in 3D format, IAV will also showcase a drive concept for the use of fuel cells in heavy-duty commercial vehicles. To this end, the Berlin-based technology company had already developed the ‘Future Truck’, a truck with alternative drive systems and optimized aerodynamics.
