On April 1, 2023, Thomas Müller will take over the position of Executive Vice President Future Powertrain at Berlin-based technology service provider IAV. From then on, he will be responsible for the management and development of the Future Powertrain division. He replaces Matthias Schultalbers, who will focus on IAV Future Technologies and, as Chief Digital Officer, drive the further digitalization of IAV.

Thomas Müller will head the Future Powertrain division at IAV from April.

After graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering, Thomas Müller spent most of his career at General Motors/Opel, where he worked mainly in the powertrain development environment. In Korea, he was responsible for all General Motors powertrain development activities outside the U.S. and Europe and was instrumental in leading electrified powertrain projects. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President within China Euro Vehicle Technology (CEVT/Geely) in Gothenburg, where he was responsible for leading and managing the Motion & Energy business.

“Thomas Müller is a leading and recognized powertrain expert in the automotive industry who brings a great deal of experience in the international environment. I am very pleased that he is now taking over responsibility for our Future Powertrain division and will be driving forward key future topics such as powertrain electrification and hybridization, CO2-neutral electromobility and efficient powertrain technologies at IAV,” says Matthias Kratzsch, CEO of IAV.

Thomas Müller is also looking forward to the new commitment and a successful collaboration: “Our goal as a Tech Solution Provider is to raise powertrain efficiency to a new level and to be able to offer the right powertrain for the respective platform to ensure CO2-neutral mobility. I am looking forward to the many exciting tasks at IAV.”

Matthias Schultalbers will focus on IAV Future Technologies. This area comprises the Digital Lab, the Tech Hub and the Transparency Point. It is IAV’s innovation driver – the focus is on the development of development approaches for technologies of the future and strong dovetailing with the research landscape. Matthias Schultalbers also holds the role of Chief Digital Officer of the IAV Group.

Matthias Kratzsch continues: “I am delighted that Matthias Schultalbers, with his many years of experience, can now lead this area with all his energy. Without him, we would not have been able to push ahead with modernization in the Future Powertrain division to the extent we have done in recent years. I would like to express my deep gratitude to him for this commitment. With his many years of experience as Chief Digital Officer, he will establish completely new technologies in our DNA and play a key role in shaping IAV’s digital future.”
