To Lake Wannsee in an electric double-decker

26.10.2022  —

The excursion route from the Berlin Exhibition Centre to Pfaueninsel will in future also be served by a historic electric high-floor double-decker bus. On Thursday, 13 October, the converted traditional bus from tech company IAV began regular service on the public line 218 of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG).

Line 218 takes passengers from Berlin’s central bus station ZOB at Messedamm in the Westend via the four-lane Heerstraße and Wannsee station to Pfaueninsel in the Havel, a World Heritage Site. “From now on, passengers can enjoy the scenic route along the Havelchaussee through Grunewald Forest completely free of noise and pollutants,” says Wolfgang Wukisiewitsch, Division Manager Solutions & Products at IAV. “With our electric drive system for commercial vehicles, we have launched a pioneering product for the mobility transition.”

An efficient e-drive system developed by IAV ensures the clean propulsion of the oldie.

A historic high-floor double-decker bus converted from diesel to electric drive using the modular parts kit “IAV Elcty” (pronounced Elocity) is used. IAV Elcty is an efficient e-drive system developed by IAV, consisting of an axle module, control unit and battery that can be used to electrify existing and new vehicles.
The “excursion line” 218 is served by yellow BVG buses as well as vehicles from Traditionsbus GmbH. The electric high-floor double-decker from IAV has successfully completed its first trip on the BVG route on Thursday with a full complement of passengers, including a school class on an environmental tour and will from now on be operating there regularly.

Especially in the Berlin area, numerous media reported around the premiere of the Elcty, such as the B.Z., the Berliner Zeitung and the Tagesspiegel.
