The latest generation of IAV’s proven on-board computer offers even more possibilities, thanks to faster hardware and a new operating system. It is simpler to integrate apps, and the modern touchscreen makes it easier to use than ever before. Furthermore, the whole system consisting of on-board computer and backend can be customized to individual needs and requirements.

Taking orders, planning routes, processing deliveries and fleet management are just a few examples of the many different logistics tasks that a computer handles much more efficiently. In combination with a customized back-end system, the on-board computer ensures smooth cooperation between driver and dispatcher to keep logistics firms always completely up-to-date in terms of their deliveries. Chefs Culinar, Europe’s leading catering wholesaler, has been using the solutions since 2008 – among others for planning tours, paperless processing of deliveries and documenting the cold chain (see interview on page 49).

The company has meanwhile moved on to the next generation of on-board computers. The new hardware with its convincing performance comes from industrial computer specialist Advantech-DLoG. Fitted out with the current Windows operating system, the device can be easily supplemented by additional apps such as a fuel station finder, while the touchscreen simplifies handling even further for the truck driver. A separate handheld device can be used to record all the customer data when making deliveries, with wireless data transfer to the on-board computer. ”The market demands this kind of solution“, says Lars Böddeker, Sales Manager Europe at Advantec-DLoG. “For us, IAV is the ideal partner for acquiring new customers, due to its great experience and because the company has developed a comprehensive software solution for logistics.” Together with the software for the on-board computer, the solution includes the backend system which manages the data of the commercial vehicles and can also be used for fleet management. ”The whole system can be customized to individual needs and requirements. We can also integrate special functions such as imports from the digital speedo“, explains Utz-Jens Beister, IAV Senior Vice President for Product Management. ”We also offer comprehensive services, including adjustment to new commercial vehicle models.“ Great interest is being shown in the new generation of on-board computers, also because IAV is in a position to offer the complete system on a one-stop shop basis. ”Our solution is attractive for all logistics firms without fixed tours“, says Sven Lochau, Senior Vice President for Device Development. ”The on-board computer guides the truck to the customer, the driver sees what needs to be delivered, and the control center always has a clear view of the current situation.“
