Senior Engineer - Hybrid Controls

IAV is currently seeking a Senior Engineer – Hybrid Controls at our Auburn Hills, MI location.


Responsibilities for the position are as follows:

  • Review system requirements with the customer (internal & external)

  • Control development, implementation, calibration and validation of new features for Hybrid System Control

  • Develop algorithms and functions to control the vehicle and or related sub-systems

  • Implement software functions based on requirements in model-based software

  • Create control and or SW documentation using IAV internal or COTS tools

  • Support validation test plan creation

  • Execute software validation test plans

  • Review test case results

  • Implement change based on test cases results

  • Handle project management duties such as quoting, budgeting time and monies, report writing, and development of customer relations that fulfills the customer service standards of IAV

  • Report technical information to management as necessary

  • Supervise/mentor department team members assisting with projects

  • Support opportunities for technology development, process improvements, tool development, and knowledge capture and reuse

  • Support, organize and lead customer meetings as required

  • Support business and strategic company development opportunities

  • Support staff compliance with IAV policies and practices

  • Maintain ISO required documentation (project diary, open issues list etc.)

  • Assist in the planning and execution of engineering activities assigned to the team

  • Travel for the purposes of test trips, training, or meetings, possibly outside of the country, from 1 day up to several months

  • All other duties as assigned

Your skills

Requirements for the position are as follows:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required, Masters Degree in Control Systems with a focus on alternative energy, hybrid vehicles and system engineering is preferred.

  • Candidate must have 8+ years of work experience in conventional or hybrid powertrain control and experience in the following areas:

    • Matlab / Simulink / Stateflow

    • ETAS Inca and or Vector Canopy

    • Hybrid Electric Vehicle development

    • Electric Vehicle Development

  • Must be able to drive a vehicle legally in the United States and also have a reliable means of transportation; may be required to drive personal vehicle independently to the different IAV locations and customer locations.
