Brakes and Traction Control Systems

Designing, simulating, interconnecting and testing brakes and traction control systems from concept to SOP

We work on a variety of aspects in the braking segment – from configuration, design and computation to simulating NVH behavior after hot spots form on the brake disks. We understand traction control systems as systems for controlling wheel-specific torque while braking (ABS/ESP) as well as during forward propulsion (controlled all-wheel drive and torque vectoring).

Apart from designing and computing, another focus of our work also lies in integrating brake control systems into the vehicle’s E/E architecture. Doing so, we strictly adhere to the requirements and customer specifications, parts of which we help to compile. We use HiL test benches and diagnostic tools from the customer as well as our own tools for analyzing and validating systems and interconnecting signals.

Our particular strength comes in the form of broad expertise in testing vehicles and validating brake-control systems. Using a comprehensive range of measuring equipment and robotics, we develop standardized tests for documenting development results and homologation testing in conformance with applicable standards. Braking robots are used from objective brake-pedal feel design to type-testing the brake assist system. Lane-changing behavior is tested using steering robots.

Our development work on the electric and hybrid vehicle front centers on aspects such as brake blending, pedal-force simulators, electric brake boosters as well as the obligation to provide OBD which, in the meantime, also covers vehicle-dynamics controllers as well as engine-drag torque control on account of impacts on consumption.

We realize projects from the initial idea to start of production in close consultation with our clients. With our international subsidiaries, we also assume responsibility in localization and developing derivatives in and for new markets.
