Small wind turbines are of particular interest for regions with hardly any infrastructure that therefore need an autonomous supply of energy. Existing solutions, however, are currently too expensive for broad-scale use – especially in areas with weak economies, like North Africa. This is why IAV wants to use its experience from automotive engineering as a service provider for developing robust, inexpensive and efficient systems.
On the one hand, our expertise in developing individual components plays a key part: We have been working on electric motors and generators for many years and also have modern test benches for e-machines. On top of this, we are familiar with the demands on efficient and cost-optimized volume production from the automotive industry – experience we would like to use in producing small wind turbine systems.
IAV’s service portfolio includes investigating and developing engine and generator concepts, measuring and parameterizing small wind turbine systems on the test bench and devising concepts for pitch adjustment systems. Beyond this, we are also involved in developing remote-diagnosis solutions as well as in analyzing the development and production of small wind turbine systems – always under the aspects of cost optimization and logistics.
