Transmission Geometry Integration

Vast expertise and efficient CAD tools are our key to integrating transmissions and transmission periphery in the vehicle’s package.

With our many years of experience with OEMs in integrating powertrains and transmissions, we can devise the optimum solution for integrating any transmission. To fit the transmission and its periphery into available package while satisfying customer specifications, we also draw on the wealth of information available from IAV’s database on all peripheral systems in the engine compartment.

Our expertise covers the entire transmission integration process:

  • Analysis and definition of package requirements
  • Concept studies
  • Package analysis
  • Powertrain integration
  • Integration of external gear-shift mechanism
  • Integration of engine / transmission suspension
  • Integration of transmission cooling
  • Adherence to mounting specifications
  • Coordination between supplier and OEM

Making efficient use of CAD tools and product-data management systems, we produce three-dimensional digital concepts for the modules that need to be integrated. Proceeding from this digital mock-up (DMU), we can identify collisions between components and package boundary surfaces and have the expertise to define the appropriate module variant.

The external gear-shift system is the link between driver and transmission. To integrate the external gear-shift system, we generate virtual envelopes of the motions involved in shifting operations. Doing so, we also take account of dynamic system behavior and responses to load changes. This way, we can optimize the layout and installation of gear-shift cables and shift-cable thrust bearings to suit defined package specifications and improve shift quality.

Modern transmissions demand conditioning measures for reducing CO2. This is where we integrate appropriate systems, such as ATF cooling, into the vehicle environment.
