Driving pleasure and climate protection: these are – broadly speaking – the two challenges automobile developers need to reconcile today. On the one hand, consumers want powerful vehicles, on the other, the demands in emission legislation are getting ever more stringent. The answer to this can only be seen in an intelligent powertrain that guarantees maximum efficiency and minimizes emissions. We show you what it could look like in this new issue of automotion.
What do automobile manufacturers need to do in the age of digitization to compete with the likes of Apple and Google? One key lever: they must build up direct digital relationships with their customers. This is something that can be done with the “AutoMotive MarketPlace” the IAV Group has developed in cooperation with payment service provider Concardis. The combination of driver assist system and online shopping, for example, gives motorists specific suggestions on mobile shopping options as they drive along their route. We presented the system to the public for the first time at CES in Las Vegas.
There’s a lot going on in the truck segment at the moment: new technologies, like platooning, aerodynamic improvements with adaptive rear tail fairings or the use of waste heat from exhaust emissions, and all of them have the potential to cut fuel consumption and CO2 emissions quite noticeably – also bringing down the costs for fleet operators. This issue of automotion looks at these and other topics covering all aspects of commercial and mobile work machines.
