Job Desciption

We are looking for a Requirements Engineer / Function Owner to support the development of advanced automotive functions within connected vehicle, embedded systems, and software-defined vehicle environments.

In this role, you will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, documenting, and managing stakeholder and customer requirements. You will translate them into clear and testable functional specifications and ensure their successful implementation, validation, and documentation across the full development lifecycle.

You will work closely with software, hardware, system architecture, validation, testing, backend, and customer teams to ensure that vehicle functions are correctly specified, implemented, and validated.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in automotive requirements engineering, function ownership, vehicle architecture, connected services, embedded systems, and system/software development processes.

As a Requirements Engineer / Function Owner, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Collect, analyze, clarify, and document stakeholder and customer requirements.
  • Define and maintain functional specifications for automotive features and systems.
  • Ensure that requirements are complete, precise, consistent, traceable, and testable.
  • Act as the functional owner for assigned vehicle functions throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Manage function requirements from concept phase to implementation and validation.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, system architecture, backend, validation, and testing teams.
  • Ensure traceability between stakeholder requirements, system requirements, functional specifications, and test cases.
  • Analyze defects, clarify functional behavior, and support root-cause analysis.
  • Participate in technical reviews, requirement reviews, function reviews, and customer workshops.
  • Support compliance with automotive development processes and quality standards.
  • Work in an agile development environment and participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation related to requirements, functions, interfaces, and validation.

You have a strong background in automotive systems, requirements engineering, function ownership, embedded systems, or connected vehicle functions. You are comfortable working with cross-functional teams and managing complex vehicle features from requirement definition to validation.

  • Degree in Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Experience as a Requirements Engineer, Function Owner, System Engineer, Feature Owner, or similar role in the automotive industry.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle architecture and automotive systems.
  • Experience with requirements management, functional specification, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to write clear, structured, and testable requirements.
  • Experience working with software, hardware, system, backend, and validation teams.
  • Good understanding of agile development processes.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage stakeholders and take ownership of functional deliverables.

The ideal candidate should have experience or good knowledge in the following areas:

Automotive Systems

  • Vehicle architecture
  • Embedded systems
  • ECU functions
  • Connected vehicle functions
  • System and software development processes
  • End-to-end feature development
  • Vehicle-to-backend communication, where applicable

Requirements and Function Management
Experience with one or more of the following tools:

  • Enterprise Architect or similar tools

Vehicle Networking and Diagnostics
Knowledge of one or more of the following:

  • CAN
  • Ethernet
  • LIN
  • FlexRay
  • V2X
  • UDS
  • DoIP
  • Automotive diagnostics
  • DTC handling

The following skills would be appreciated: 

  • Knowledge of AUTOSAR.
  • Knowledge of Software Defined Vehicle, SDV, concepts.
  • Knowledge of UML / SysML.
  • Experience with connected services or telematics systems.
  • Experience with backend platforms, mobile applications, or cloud-connected vehicle features.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity standards, especially ISO 21434.
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards, especially ISO 26262.
  • Knowledge of Automotive SPICE.
  • Experience in validation, test automation, or system integration.
  • German language skills would be a plus.
