The IAV Engine Suite is a modular software package for the design, optimization, and analysis of engine and powertrain systems. It draws on more than 30 years of IAV experience in the development of mechanical and hybrid powertrains and helps developers evaluate technical potential early in the development process.

It is designed for design engineers, computational engineers, and simulation specialists in automotive development. Flexible modeling, short computation times, a consistent data model, and comprehensive evaluation functions facilitate the efficient handling of complex development tasks.

The development of efficient and reliable engine and powertrain systems requires the design, analysis, and optimization of numerous components and subsystems. The valve train, crankshaft train, timing train, engine mounts, and powertrain must be evaluated and coordinated with one another as early as the initial stages of development. IAV Engine Suite provides an integrated development environment for the modeling, design, and optimization of mechanical systems. Developers can analyze and optimize valve trains, crankshaft drives, crankshafts, timing and auxiliary drive systems, and engine mounts. Additional features are available for simulating powertrains and evaluating the impact on fuel consumption and emissions. Wizards accelerate the rapid creation of base models and standard processes, while interactive designers facilitate the targeted design and optimization of individual components and functional groups. Supplementary functions for variant management, visualization, and animation round out the end-to-end development process.

Integration and Compatibility

The IAV Engine Suite is available for Windows and Linux and can be run entirely locally as a desktop application. In addition to interactive use, it supports automated batch calculations. For extensive variant analyses and optimizations, calculations can be distributed across the network as needed. CAD-related functions are directly integrated into existing CAD applications and are available there within the familiar work environment.

The IAV Engine Suite is based on IAV Engine as its core solution and can be expanded with additional modules and tool packages. Specifically, the following modules are available:

  • IAV Engine is the central component of the IAV Engine Suite and enables the interactive design and optimization of the mechanical components of modern internal combustion engines. Wizards speed up the creation of base models, while interactive designers support the targeted design and optimization of individual assemblies.
  • IAV Engine Toolbox uses the partial and complete models created in IAV Engine as the basis for variant comparisons and multi-criteria optimization tasks. To this end, calculation processes can be automated, parametric model variants can be generated, and modules from the IAV Engine Suite—as well as external calculation tools—can be integrated into automated workflows. Computationally intensive variant studies can be accelerated as needed through parallel processing over a network.
  • IAV Engine Analyzer complements the suite with specialized tools for evaluating, comparing, and visualizing simulation and test data. This enables efficient analysis of calculation results, comparison of variants, and informed development decisions.
  • IAV Engine Powertrain Dynamics enables the dynamic simulation of the entire engine and complete powertrain—including hybrid powertrain concepts. Subsystems and complete systems can be analyzed at various levels of model detail and in different simulation modes; the results are evaluated and displayed in the IAV Engine postprocessor.
  • IAV Engine CAD Tools provide CAD-related functions directly within the design system and facilitate the use of geometry-related data for downstream design and simulation tasks.
