Security from cyber attacks

Cybersecurity is one of the biggest challenges of future mobility: autonomous and connected vehicles are attractive targets for hackers. But how can we reliably protect them from attacks?

Back in 2008, IAV joined forces with easycore GmbH and the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW) to launch the research project SecVI: Security for Vehicular Information.

This concept enables vehicles to detect and prevent attacks at an early stage – and without having to modify all the vehicle’s existing components.

“Vehicles are now rolling computers that are all connected to each other. They are permanently online, communicating with each other and with the back end,” says Professor Falk Langer, Team Manager Embedded Software and Security at IAV.

The project partners have developed intelligent methods for controlling, monitoring and reconfiguring in-vehicle networks in order to protect our increasingly interconnected vehicles.
