IAV presents

The Overdogs

15.09.2023  —

For the 100 participating teams, Formula Student Germany 2023 has only just ended with the race at the Hockenheimring, but students at the universities are already in the process of getting together again and will soon start developing their racecars for the 2024 competition. With the film “The Overdogs – Tech Talents on Pole Position”, sponsor and mentor IAV celebrates the passion and commitment of the young tech talents.

The title “The Overdogs” was chosen deliberately: Underdogs are often perceived as quiet innovators in niche areas who do not receive enough recognition. “Overdogs” expresses that it is time to celebrate these heroes more loudly and to acknowledge their achievements: For the participants not only study hard for their degrees, but also work tirelessly with their team colleagues on their racecars, over many months and often well into the night. They are more than underdogs, they are overdogs.

The film shows how students from different STEM disciplines work closely together at Formula Student. They develop powertrains, control systems, software and much more. This collaborative work in a student setting reflects what IAV does in an industrial setting.

That is why we have been supporting Formula Student Germany for 15 years and are a proud main sponsor and mentor. In addition to financial support, we also offer the young talents our expertise to prepare them for the challenges that await them. This includes training and certificates that are required for the competition. Shortly before the competition in Hockenheim, the teams can take part in our IAV Race Days and prepare for the actual race.

The film project was accompanied and produced by the creative agency potvis.

On behalf of the 14 teams that we sponsor, we would like to thank the wob-racing team from Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, who allowed us to peek over their shoulders in Hockenheim. Special thanks go to Sophia Schuch, student of Digital and Mechanical Engineering, who was responsible for chassis and aerodynamics in her team during FSG 2023 and will be project manager from 2024, and Yannick Limberg, who was commercial project manager of the team during FSG 2023 with a recently completed bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, for giving us an insight into their work at the Hockenheimring.
